Privacy

This site counts its visits to learn which posts people read and where they come from. It counts them on its own server, with no other company involved, and shares them with no one.

What every visit keeps

For each page you open, with or without the cookie:

  • The page, and when you opened it.
  • The site you came from, by its name only, such as github.com.
  • Whether you are on a phone, a tablet or a computer, and your browser's name, such as Firefox.
  • The utm_source of the link you followed, if it has one, such as newsletter.

You are counted as a code made from your address and your browser, mixed with a secret and the day. The code changes every day, so your visits on different days cannot be tied together, and your address is not kept. Programs, such as search engines, are not counted. Visits are deleted after 400 days.

What the cookie adds

If you accept, the site keeps a cookie named visitor in your browser for 13 months, with a random number in it. It tells the site that you came back on another day, so it can count the people who return. The site only reads it on its own pages, and stores a code made from it, never the number itself.

A cookie named cookies remembers your choice for 13 months, so the site does not ask again. If you decline, it is the only one the site keeps for this.

Apart from visits, a cookie named theme remembers the light or dark scheme, only after you pick one with the button at the top.
